This Management Level Course for Marine Engineer Officers (Function 1) covers the mandatory minimum requirement for approved education and training as provided for under Regulation III/2 of the STCW Convention, 1978, as amended for chief engineers and second engineers on ships powered by main propulsion machinery of 3,000 kW propulsion or more; and to meet the minimum standard of competence specified in Section A-III/2 of the STCW Code under Function: Marine Engineering at the Management Level.

Course Completion Requirements
  • Trainees must complete all required formative assessments.
  • Trainees must obtain at least 75% in the summative theoretical assessment.
  • Trainees must be rated Competent in all required practical tasks, including all critical tasks.
  • Trainees must complete the required attendance.
  • Formative assessments are mandatory for progression, even though they do not carry percentage weight in the final course result.
Assessment Conduct Requirements

All assessments shall be conducted only through the approved LMS or in approved controlled assessment environments.

Trainees are required to follow all assessment instructions, identity-verification procedures, invigilation rules, safety requirements, and assessment-integrity controls during both theoretical and practical assessments.

Resits and Failed Components

A trainee who does not pass may retake only the failed component.

Retakes are subject to the approved limit of one initial sitting plus up to two authorized resits.

Appeals

If a trainee believes the result was affected by a grading error, procedural irregularity, bias, or administrative error, a formal appeal may be filed.

The appeal must be filed within two working days from the release of results.
